Getting an English language proficiency certification

The Visa you need
Now that you have secured a TEFL certification, you are legally permitted to pursue your teaching career in China. But a few more things are needed to be kept in mind. Visa is the most important part of your China tour. And if you are interested in teaching English China, you should apply for the right visa. A general business visa wouldn’t work as you are required to get hold of a Z Working Visa. To get such a Visa, you will need to submit a proof of invitation issued by your employer. Requirements of the Z Visa
Now you must understand that for getting hold of the Z Visa, you must qualify for the three requirements. One of the requirements is that you should be a native English speaker, which means that English should be your first language. In addition, you must hold a graduate degree along with at least two years of working experience since the date of your graduation. You would be granted the Z Visa only if you qualify in all of these criteria. There are some exceptions in the rules for securing the Z Visa and you must know them. All the cities in China are divided into three tiers. The Tier 1 cities include the big metropolitan cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, etc. If you wish to teach in any of these cities, you must have the 2 years of teaching experience. However, if your chosen destination belongs to the other tires, this rule isn’t mandatory. So choose your destination accordingly.
